THE PACK:

"A dog is a true friend, and one you can be certain will never talk about you, no matter what you do." - Anonymous

No story about Labrador Communications would be complete without meeting the pack.

TASHA: Not the oldest, but the first -- and definitely the leader of the pack. Tasha was adopted from the Mendocino Coast Humane Society as a 10-week-old puppy in November of 1998. You know the story. There you are on vacation and the local shelter sets up a mobile adoption on the park lawn and they've got the cutest little Black Lab puppies. Before you know it, you're holding one. And those brown eyes look straight into your heart and you're hooked. Yep. And your life is never again the same.

The Pack: Greenspan, NASDAQ and Tasha "have a ball" with their Unleashed Alpha Communicator
NASDAQ: (1997-2007 We miss you, big guy.) Originally named Shadow, NASDAQ joined the household in April of 2000. Adopted at 2 1/2 years of age from the Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue Organization, Shadow was incredibly agile at climbing fences and his first owner could not keep him in the yard. From the middle of March until the middle of April he was moved between shelters and foster homes – down on his luck – just like the NASDAQ stock market at the time. But Jane knew Shadow was a climber and Jane thought he was kind of like the real NASDAQ – she was positive those stocks would climb back up. Now you know how NASDAQ got his name – and you also know why Jane is not a financial consultant.

GREENSPAN: Greenie started out life as Max. It wasn't an easy early life. At the mere age of 4 1/2 months, Max was turned over to the Sonoma County Animal Shelter by his owner. It became obvious to temperament testers that Max had been beaten and kicked. He was fearful and a potential biter. Declared "unadoptable," Max was headed for the lethal needle until Jane intervened. She originally planned to re-name him "Dow Jones," as NASDAQ's brother, but worried that the name was too close to the "down" command. Heading out the door to pick up a newly neutered Max from the shelter, she spotted Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan on TV, testifying before Congress about the fall of the stock market. A light bulb went off, and Max came home as Greenspan in January, 2001.

Labrador Retrievers are the most popular dogs in America. As a result, they are also among the most common breeds found in animal shelters. If you decide to become a doggy parent, please visit your local shelter or contact a rescue group. Save a life. You will be richly rewarded.

Labrador Communications makes annual contributions to various humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue organizations.
